Janina Bacchetta is a textile artist based in Wales. Her work sits between heritage craft and contemporary art, working with a range of textile based techniques, predominantly using hand embroidery, appliqué and natural dye processes as her signature theme. Through those materials and processes Janina explores themes of material meaning, race, identity, memory and human connection. She is particularly attracted to materials with a history - scraps of fabrics, discarded textiles, historical objects or items that have an emotional value to them. The slow and gentle process of hand embroidery means that there is an intrinsic value to her work and stitching by hand acts as a ritual, reflective and healing process for the artist.

Alongside her textile practice, Janina is a lecture in Fashion and Textiles at City of Bristol College and a member of Artists in Research and Textiles (A.R.T), which is part of ACE Arts gallery in Somerton, so textiles play a significant role in her teaching, her creative practice and as a member of a textile collective.
